The demonstrations should take place in several major cities in the United States on Monday, the holidays of the presidents, according to activists.
These demonstrations are organized by the 50501 movement, which means “50 protests. 50 states. 1 movement ”. The demonstrations are a response to what the organizers describe as “the anti-democratic and illegal actions of the Trump administration”. This marks the second national demonstration by the group, following an event held on February 5.
The demonstrations follow a series of decrees signed by President Trump, including actions carried out by billionaire Elon Musk, which have been criticized for their objectives to reduce the role of the federal government.
Organizers such as Sydney Wilson – a local organizer in Pittsburgh and the national press link for 50501 – tell NPR that holding the events of a day dedicated to the celebration of American presidents is an ideal moment.
“We go out and protest because we are concerned about the actions of our current president,” said Wilson. “We thought it was a nice little punch.”
Here is what you need to know about the 50501 movement and the demonstrations on the day of the presidents.
It started on Reddit
The idea of a day of protest in each state is from Reddit by a user named Evolved_Fungi at the end of January. The concept quickly gained ground on various social media platforms, according to the organizers.
The first demonstration on a national level in 50501 occurred on February 5 and although it did not attract the hundreds of thousands of demonstrators seen on January 21, 2017 – the day after the first inauguration of Trump – thousands people participated in total in cities and in the Capitols state, including in Connecticut,, Colorado And Hawaii. The organization estimates that there were nearly 80 protests in 88 cities.
During these demonstrations, the participants called for the indictment and withdrawal of Trump, demanded an investigation into Elon Musk – who directs A team called on the government’s ministry of efficiency – and sought the reintegration of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives that have been canceled by decrees.
For the next wave of demonstrations, which should take place on Monday at Capitols d’etat and Washington, DC, Wilson says that they expect a similar participation rate, if not larger than the previous one. Their requests remain unchanged.
“”We always call a lot on the abolition of Elon Musk. We find it very worrying that there is a non -governmental official who has the access he has, “said Wilson.” And we would like to see the strengthening of anti-discrimination legislation. “”
The group also pleads for an investigation into Trump’s presidential nominees, in particular those related to the 2025 project, such as Russell VoughtThe architect of the Conservative agenda.
Wilson says that the 50501 movement plans to hold more protests in the future.

The demonstrations are coordinated with the political revolution, a group founded in 2016 after the senator of Vermont Bernie Sanders – an independent who is caucus with the Democrats – the presidential campaign. The 50501 group is made up of volunteers and managers who “were on the front line of justice, walking in support of Black Lives Matter, Women’s Rights, LGBTQ + advocacy and the rights of handicaps,” said the organization.
The group says that he is not affiliated with any political party and that they describe Monday’s protest as a “call for action”.
“The current administration said that it cares more about profit than people. We, as a collective, refuse to stand up as they continued to undermine the dignity of our communities,” said the group in A press release. “We are not only figures or consumers. We are people. We reject fascism. We reject the oligarchy. We reject the idea that the value of any person is lower than that of another.”
The demonstrations and the 50501 movement aroused substantial support on social media platforms, with more than 102,000 members on their Reddit page and more than 7,000 on Discord.
In addition, Smart Girls, an organization founded by actress and actress Amy Poehler and producer Meredith Walker, promoted to come.
Local and state democratic legislators also supported demonstrations. During the demonstrations of February 5, several Democrats in the State House of Michigan joined demonstrators at the State Capitol.
