Rye – the Center inherited from the oceanic genome of the Northeast University and the Seacoast scientific center The rescue team for marine mammals has announced a new partnership aimed at improving our understanding of the biology of marine mammals.
The Ocean Genome Legacy Center, a non -profit marine research laboratory and a repository of organic samples, is dedicated to the exploration and preservation of the wealth of information contained in the DNA of marine organizations and training of the next generation of marine scientists.
Seacoast Science Center, a non -profit organization located in Odiorne Point State Park in Rye, focuses on the teaching of marine sciences and operates a program to rescue the 24/7 marine mammals. The marine mammals rescue team monitors and responds to marine mammals that transport and block on the shore due to the disease, injuries and other causes. To find out more about environmental and human impacts on the health of marine mammals, the team collects data from blocked animals and takes samples from those who died.
Thanks to this partnership, the samples taken by the Marine Mammalian rescue team will be subject to the reference center of Ocean Genome Legacy, becoming accessible to researchers from around the world. This collaboration aims to promote the health of marine creatures and to advance conservation efforts.
Despite its early stages, the partnership has already collected samples and data from a variety of species of marine mammals, including port seals, humpback whales, hooded seals, common dolphins and Harp seals.
