The leadership school of the University of the South of Mississippi (USM) as well as local professionals met during the third annual event “Business experience” held on Tuesday on the Gulf Park campus.

Students have networks in the business world and received advice and advice on subjects to help them prepare for work, including interview strategies, the 60 -second elevator ground, the art of little conversation and more. Students of community colleges in the region and high schools also attended.

Dr. Jacob Breland, director of the School of Leadership, was delighted to collaborate with local schools and to offer an event that can help prepare students to be ready for business.

“The duplicate students we have invited are the best and the brightest of our local secondary schools. They are already on the way to a university degree, and we want to show them that the leadership school and the business college and economic development are there to help them succeed, “said Breland. “For many students, this is the first time they have been on our campus. They liked to walk on campus, look around and even check our library. We are happy that they are delighted with the possibility of attending the USM. »»

Amy Yeend, assistant dean of professional development and professional success, who has coordinated the program on the Hattiesburg campus for several years, has expressed the value of the event.

“Seeing the active commitment between our industry professionals and our students is always exciting. In this occasional environment, students are more comfortable asking questions and often spend more time than expected during the event because they receive such information, “said Yeend. “In addition, our industry volunteers are still impatient to participate and take advantage of coaching conversations with students. This is a unique opportunity for managers to supervise students and share career advice. »»
