Trump’s signature problem is at the center of the fight against his program at Congress
The Republicans of the Chamber and the Senate remain on a collision trajectory on the Donald Trump agenda. And the president’s signature problem is at the center of the latter.
Trump’s “border tsar” Tom Homan, and budget director Russ Vought went to Capitol Hill on Tuesday to meet the Senate Republicans, Sahil Kapur, Melanie Zanona, Kate Santaliz and Frank Thorp V Report. The message? “More money, more successful,” said Homan afterwards.
Senator Lindsey Graham, RS.C., president of the Senate budget committee, said the administration required an additional $ 175 billion to finance their immigration and mass expulsion repression plans.
“Tom Homan said,” I beg you money “,” Graham told journalists. “Russ Vought said:” We lack money for (immigration and customs enclosed). We can no longer deprive other accounts. “”
Graham used this to support his strategy of two tickets for Trump’s agenda: working on a bill now dealing with the border, defense and energy, then turn to another dealing with the extension From the Trump tax reductions in 2017 tax reductions. He plans to mark and vote on a budgetary resolution for the first series of questions on Wednesday and Thursday.
But the Republicans of the Chamber launched Thursday with their own increase on a budgetary resolution which includes the tax overhaul in addition to the border and other political areas. The leaders of the GOP of the Chamber want to move forward with a single bill, fearing that the documents which are left in the first package could not obtain enough support later in the year, given their tiny majority.
“To my friends in the house: we move because we owe it. I wish you the best. I want `a big, beautiful bill ” – but I cannot, and I will not return to South Carolina and will not justify not support the president’s immigration plan,” said Graham. “We don’t build a wall, friends. We hit a wall. They need money and they need it now. »»
Chamber Mike Johnson and his allies had not published the text of the budgetary resolution on Tuesday afternoon while Johnson has trouble unifying his fractive conference around a massive package. The far -right Caucus Freedom Caucus is skeptical about the strategy of a Johnson Vill, rather offering its own two -track process which approaches immigration money first.
Even once they have set the One Bill debate against Two Bills, the Republicans still have a long way to go: the Congress cannot officially start working on a reconciliation package until the room and the Senate adopt identical budgetary resolutions.

Eric Adams’ legal problems are on a break. His political problems are not.
By Steve Kornacki
He is no longer deal with federal corruption costsBut the political status of mayor Eric Adams in New York remains disastrous while he is continuing a re -election offer this year.
A Pix11 / Emerson College survey Taken last week did not only test the race at the town hall of the city; He tested two distinct scenarios for the June democratic primary. In the first, Adams recorded only 16% support in a less -known Democratic rivals, the majority of voters who made another option.
The second survey scenario added the former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who has picked up a potential offer from the town hall, in the mixture.
With its general recognition of name and favorable notes among primary democratic voters, Cuomo engulfs support of 33%, with Adams a second distant at 10% and the others in one figure. Surprisingly, Adams, whose in -depth support among black voters propelled it to victory in the democratic primary of 2021Not doing much better with black voters only with any other group – an observation compatible with other New York polls.
And there are potential obstacles for Adams when he tries to build a new support. Only 29% of democratic primary voters say they have a favorable vision of him and that only about a quarter want the federal accusations against him to be abandoned.
Although the survey is certainly encouraging for Cuomo, who resigned from his post as governor in 2021, he will face a revival of control and the criticism of the press and his opponents on the scandals which forced him to be Depending on if he enters this race. And as the other, non-adam candidates have struck the waves, the advantage of recognition of the name of Cuomo will decrease. In addition, it will be the second town hall race under the race under the city of New York Classified choice systemwho can hinder a particularly polarizing candidate.
Apart from the Democratic Primary Universe of New York, there is just as little enthusiasm for Adams. Adams is not only less popular than Cuomo – several Sutilles on the Rémordes showed President Donald Trump equal or better Numbers that Adams in New York.
Part of this is due to improving Trump’s position in relation to past years. With spectacular growth in the support of non -white voters – in particular American Hispanic and Asian voters – Trump only lost 38 points against Kamala Harris in November, down 53 points against Joe Biden in 2020.
