On Tuesday, Ford began a two -day trip to Washington DC, widely paid for by the conservative progressive campaign, which will involve meetings in its capacity as Prime Minister and President of the Federation Council, representing the 13 Prime Ministers of Canada.
The other leaders of the Ontario Party have deeply criticized the decision to travel south – suggesting that Ford was scrambling the borders between the head of the campaign party and the Prime Minister during an electoral campaign that he triggered.
“I think he breaks the Guardian Convention – I think he plays quickly and loose with the rules,” said Ontario Liberal Chief Bonnie Crombie, Reference the rules that say The outgoing prime ministers during the elections should avoid events with the perception of the politically advantage of their campaign.
“Frankly, if he was a committed Prime Minister, he would be in the process of fighting the tariff war here, without fighting an electoral campaign and sharing in the middle of an election to go to Washington.”
In DC, Ford delivered a speech in which he said he wanted to work with President Donald Trump and help him pronounce his vision of a “new golden age”.
The NPD chief Marit Stiles said that Ford’s approach was “unhappy” and that the message he transmitted to the United States did not reflect the way Ontarians feel.
“We do not feel very generous towards Donald Trump and we have already seen that Doug Ford showed us who he is, telling us that he supported Donald Trump, even during the elections, when Donald Trump threatened our country,” declared Stiles.

“I think Ontarians are right not to trust him and to be cynical about his trip to the United States.”
Part of Ford’s route to Washington is paid by the conservative progressive party, while other parties are funded by the government.
A PC spokesperson told Global News that Ford hotels and plane tickets were paid by the party, but that a fireplace conversation with the American Chamber of Commerce and a networking event with the senators were funded by the taxpayer.
Speaking in Washington, Ford said that the trip had been approved by the guardian of the ethics of the legislative assembly.
“I was authorized by the integrity commissioner, but it is (neither) here nor there,” he said. “The Canadian people want us here, not only Ontarians, Canadians. They want all the representatives, all their primary ministers here. »»
Ford South’s trip is part of a lobbying effort to try to end tariff threats and increase Canadian cooperation in the United States. We did not know how many Americans listened to his first major event of the day, which the chief of the PC recognized was delivered to “many Canadians” present at DC
He also recognized the role of the elections he called in late January in the journey and his perception.
“We are in electoral mode at the moment,” he said. “In addition, the opposition thought it would be a good idea that we pay ourselves and this is something with which I agree (liberal of Ontario) John Fraser when he says that the party should pay.”
Back in Ontario, the NPD, the Liberals and the Greens organized more targeted campaign days at the national level.
Crombie has unveiled a series of policies designed to call on young voters, with promises of tax credit which she hopes to create 40,000 internships, cooperatives and learning if they are implemented and modifies the functioning of universities and Colleges.

Crombie said his party would eliminate interest on OSAP loans and increase the reimbursement threshold to $ 50,000.
She also declared that her party would have caps international registrations in the colleges and universities of Ontario at 10% and would work in a means not yet specified to improve government funding for post -secondary education to end its dependence on regard to international students.
“We are going to reduce the unemployment rate of our young people in half,” proclaimed Crombie as part of his argument.

“We have to delete students’ pressure,” Stiles said when stopping the campaign in Kitchener, Ontario.
The NPD has also unveiled a plan for southwest Ontario, with examples of how the region would benefit from various promises that its party has already revealed, such as a grocery store based on income and size of the family or the hiring of more nurses.
