The Spanish reinsurer Mapfre Re reorganized its commercial structure in order to advance its “strategic objectives”.
The changes, in force from March 1, will focus on the development of the life sector, as well as a “more clear strategic, commercial and technical objective, and an improved relationship with customers and brokers”.
The new structure should also support an “agile response” to the evolution of customer and market needs.
Mapfre Re appointed Javier San Basilio as Managing Director.
In its new role, Basilio will coordinate regional divisions and assume responsibility for developing relations with large customers and brokers.
The reinsurer non-group company is now structured in subscription and non-life life activities.
As deputy managing directors, Carmen Bueso will direct the non-life subscription unit, while Maite González will lead the life sector, which includes life, health and accident functions.
Ricardo Pérez has been appointed director of the Iberia and Latin America region and will become a member of the Mapfre Re management committee.
The company operates in four regional divisions: Iberia / Latam, supervised by Pérez; APAC, led by Javier Sánchez CEA; Emea, led by Mark Meyerhoff; and North America, managed by Carlos Sanzo.
Fernando Utrilla will continue to manage the company from the Mapfre group.
In addition, a strategy, communication, sustainability and innovation division was created to provide an “integrated vision” of these aspects, under the direction of Juan Satrústegui.
The CEO of Mapfre Re Miguel Rosa said: “These changes will allow us to move forward with greater agility and ambition in the Mapfre Re strategy while we are taking up even greater challenges in the years to come. We will continue to stimulate non-life activity and lead the development of our life activity, where we have a long way to go. »»
In December 2024, Mapfre Re sponsored his First disaster link For $ 125 million (120.98 million euros), designed to protect itself against catastrophic events such as tropical storms and hurricanes in the United States.
