Lake Tahoe, California/Nev. – The results of a survey on the commercial promenade across Lake Tahoe Basin coordinated in October 2024 by the Tahoe Prosperity Center for non -profit in collaboration with 15 regional commercial associations, chambers of commerce and government partners local are now available. The information will be used to shed light on the initiatives and future partnerships aimed at meeting the challenges of the region.

During three days, 64 volunteers have developed 700 small businesses, generating answers from more than 400 companies via person and online surveys.

“The Business Walk survey gives an overview of a specific” moment “when it comes to the way things happen in the regional economy,” said Heidi Hill Drum, executive director of Tahoe Prosperity Center. “This snapshot of information can be very useful to understand what works or does not work in the region, which has finally helped elected officials and managers to make informed decisions that have an impact on small local businesses.”

The best commercial challenges identified in the 2024 trade survey include:

  • Affected housing: it was the main concern noted by more than half of all companies, despite many companies that report that they are stable or growing.
  • Infrastructure challenges: the need for transport improvements, employee housing and broadband have exceeded the list of the main road dams to small local businesses.
  • Development of workforce, training and recruitment: developing a skilled workforce to respond to requests from the local economy has been cited as crucial for small businesses, and companies are looking for solutions to fill This gap.

Almost 70% of small businesses have also indicated that tourism is essential for the regional economy and overall health of local businesses. Despite the challenges that companies face, most local business owners have declared that they have a positive perspective concerning the economy, although there are concerns about economic challenges, including the cost increase, the drop in income and increase in competition.

“I really appreciate the efforts of all the organizations involved in the commercial procedure. The data collected will be precious to help local governments and business defenders to identify collaboration opportunities and strengthen the economy of Tahoe, “said Tamara Wallace, mayor of the city of South Lake Tahoe.

“We were delighted to see that some of the projects and programs that North Tahoe’s room and the North Tahoe Community Alliance initiated the results,” said Kimberly Brown, executive director of North Tahoe Chamber. “We are impatient to incorporate these comments into the current update of our roadmap between the Chamber and business associations so that we can continue to meet the needs of our business world directly.”
