Kirksville, Mo, – Heart disease is the main cause of death in the United States according to the CDC.

One person dies every 33 seconds from a cardiovascular disease.

At the University of Still University Kirksville, a Franchesca Cook family medical doctor says that the best way to prevent heart disease is to take care of your body.

“It all starts with the way you treat your body,” said Cook. “So feed it with good things, get a good healthy diet, avoid a lot of sugar, exercise daily and manage your stress levels.”

Not only eat well and do significant exercise, but you should avoid doing things that may have long -term negative consequences.

“Looking at these sweet treats that we all love, sugar is definitely associated with a higher risk of heart disease, to be sedentary and not to remain active,” said Cook. “So, you don’t need to have a gym subscription, but you should certainly stay in motion. Which is very good for your heart.”

Knowing the signs of heart disease is important because faster, you realize that something is wrong, more quickly, they can start treatment.

“Chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, unable to do some of the activities you are used to,” said Cook. “This can be worrying if you have heart palpitations where you have the impression that your heart was floating. These are things you want to mention with your primary care provider as soon as possible.”

The current signs of a heart attack include chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, fatigue and cold perspiration.

If you feel one of these symptoms, you should call the 911 immediately.
