Albany, ny – The New York State Ministry of State calls on residents to adopt healthier lifestyles to combat heart disease, the main cause of state death. This initiative is part of the month of the American heart, observed in February.

Dr. James McDonald, the state health commissioner, stressed the importance of lifestyle changes in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

McDonald said,

The risk of cardiovascular disease can be considerably reduced when people take measures to make positive lifestyle changes such as not starting to smoke or quit smoking, increasing physical activity and eating well. The American heart month is the ideal time to make known the impact of cardiovascular diseases and how to prevent the heart attack and stroke.

According to the report of the behavioral factors monitoring system of the Ministry of Health Health, around 1,298,000 adults in New York have a cardiovascular disease, which includes heart attacks, a chest, a coronary disease or stroke.

The report underlines that the prevalence of cardiovascular disease is significantly higher in adults in rural areas (9.9%), those who experience food insecurity (9.7%) and people unable to allow themselves medical care During the past year (9.5%). The prevalence is even more pronounced in adults without reliable transport (15.9%), those who have fewer secondary studies (12.6%) and those diagnosed with a depressive disorder (12.1%).

Health managers recommend several lifestyle changes to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, including regular physical activity, healthy diet, regular health screening and membership of medical advice.

The American general surgeon advises adults to engage within two and a half hours of moderate intensity exercise each week, while children and adolescents should aim for one hour of physical activity per day.

For those who smoke, the NYS Quitline offers arrest support. In addition, individuals who consume alcohol are invited to do so in moderation.
