The city of Santa Cruz reopened the platform this Saturday, almost two weeks since the end of the pier collapsed in the ocean.

Since 1915, four generations have made candy.

We talked to Makena Ganly working in the shop.

“Many people have a lot of love and love childhood memories that are always with them as adults and grow up and I think it makes him really special for many people,” said Ganly.

Ganly says in a way that the collapse brought visitors to the quay.

“We had a lot more, I think, business during our slow season compared because of the fact that people try to help local businesses that are here and know that they have had trouble. Joy in my heart knows that this place is always operational and that we have had so much support from all areas in different fields like San Jose, like Monterey, “said Ganly.

Despite this stormy weather, Cynthia Paschen, a resident of San Leandro, wanted to spend her birthday on the platform.

“We went here to have a cocktail and walk,” said Paschen.

Paschen bought Marini candies.

Regarding the quay, she hopes that those responsible will repair it.

“They must repair it before everything falls,” said Paschen.

Since reopening, officials have said that the platform was safe. An engineering assessment said that there was no structural damage other than the area that collapsed.

Regarding the continuation, the officials of Santa Cruz did not say if they planned to replant the part of the quay which collapsed.
