Phoenix (Azfamily) – A couple of Phoenix pleaded guilty to a health fraud regime which, according to prosecutors, said that Medicare and other insurers of more than a billion dollars in less than two years.

According to the American Department of JusticeThe couple made false complaints and fraudulent for expensive and medically useless treatment that was applied to elderly and terminal patients.

Federal officials identified the couple on Friday as Alexandra Gehrke, 39, and her husband, Jeffrey King, 46,

Prosecutors say that Gehrke has led two companies, Apex Medical LLC and Viking Medical Consultants LLC, with unleashed commercial representatives who would locate older patients and those of the hospice who suffered injuries.

These representatives would then order these unique amniotic wound transplants from a specific distributor. Thanks to this tactic, the federals say that it received more than $ 279 million in illegal bribes from the transplant distributor.

Meanwhile, King’s company would have fraudally billed Medicare, Tricare, Champva and other insurers for the transplants.

Between November 2022 and May 2024, the couple would have submitted $ 1.212 billion in false complaints to health insurance plans.

As part of their advice on advocacy, they were ordered to reimburse money as a restitution and lost more than $ 410 million in the declared fraud.

Both are able up to 20 years in prison. Gehrke should be sentenced on February 11, while a date of determining the sentence for King has not yet been set.
