The southern coast of British Columbia is expected to obtain its first real explosion of winter weather This weekend.

A cold front should move through the Lower Mainland and the island of Vancouver from Friday evening, as is a system loaded with humidity moves on the coast.

The combination should offer “waves of showers or gusts depending on the temperature”, throughout the weekend, said Senior Meteorologist in British Columbia, Kristi Gordon.

“We expect the Arctic Air to move, but it will occur slowly throughout the weekend, so Saturday and Sunday will switch between high temperatures during the day when we just see showers, while At night, we have the potential of gusts. “”

Environment Canada has published special meteorological declarations for the region, warning “strong gusts and cold temperatures” as Arctic air enters the region.

Gordon said the snowfall is inconsistent.

There is a chance of night gusts on Saturday morning at higher altitudes and in the Fraser valley, she said.

Significant snowfall, however, could strike the low Mainland late Sunday until Monday, said Gordon.

Translink is also preparing for winter weather, deployment of new in -depth tires on 600 buses as well as new articulated buses with central drive axels.

However, Translink’s spokesperson Dan Mountain urged people to develop a little time on their movements and register for transit alerts for their routes.

“We recognize that it might not work as usual, it may not work because you are used to seeing there during snow events,” he said.

“We do our best to make people move, but our system has, of course, an impact and the more serious the snow, the more it could change.”

The provincial government has also expressed an opinion urging drivers to prepare for snow and not to go driving unless their vehicle is ready for winter.
