Although there is still a lot to do, there has been encouraging progress to reduce infant mortality and improve maternal and child health of Franklin County and Ohio Center.
The work of Celebrateone, Ohio Better Npirth Sentaux and a host of community partners led to Franklin to reach its lowest infant mortality rate (IMR) in recent history (6.7 for 1,000 live births in 2020 ). But even at this level, the IMR is too high. There is also a significant racial disparity in infant mortality rates, with black babies dying at a higher rate than white babies.
The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center tackles this problem from several angles using research, treatment programs and community awareness to create a better future for all pregnancies and babies, and to reduce the disparities between rates white and black infant mortality.
