Nova Scotia Liberal Jaime Battiste said he abandons the leadership race for the Liberal Party and supports former central banker Mark Carney.
The deputy of Sydney – Victoria made this announcement in a statement sent Thursday evening by his campaign.
Batiste was the only Aboriginal candidate in the running and sought to put First Nations problems on the agenda during the competition.

He says that the best way for him to advance the problems that take him into account – reconciliation, the environment and affordability – is to support Carney’s leadership offer.
Five candidates remain in the race, including liberal deputies Chrystia Freeland and Karina Gould, and former deputy Frank Baylis and Ruby Dhalla.
Liberals choose their next leader on March 9.
