Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson described the performance of his team as “far from being quite good” after their 3-2 defeat against Stevenage at the Hippodrome Stok.
A first home defeat of the One League of the season leaves the dragons third in the table.
Mid-Table Stevenage became the first team to finish double the league on Wrexham this season, Parkinson has left by questioning a lack of fight from his players.
“Not far from being good enough. We were the second best, certainly in the first half, the two goals we conceded were far too easy,” said Parkinson.
“Obviously, we were not playing very well and we accept this, but we have built this season to be strong, resilient and defend as a team. We worked hard to keep the ball out of our net and really give us a platform To win games.
“We have to start making the foundations on a football field. If you don’t play well for any reason, you must always give yourself a platform by fighting, blocking the shots and competing all over the field , In these elements, we were far from our best.
“There were not enough combat players two or three players in the team. It was a very disappointing night and we have to think about this quickly.”
Parkinson stressed the importance of providing an answer when Wrexham goes to Crawley Town in difficulty this weekend.
“We have a little creation of souls to do before Saturday,” added Parkinson.
“We will use this defeat as a motivation and we will ensure that the team chosen for Saturday will fight tooth and nails for the badge.”
