Nearly 50 UC San Francisco researchers appointed to Clarivate list of the most influential scientists for 2024.

The ranking is based on citations to journal articles from the last decade. It starts with all researchers whose publications rank in the top 1%. A group of experts then selects the top 0.1% of all academics.

UCSF scientists were among the most cited researchers in biology and biochemistry, clinical medicine, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology and genetics, neuroscience and behavior, pharmacology and toxicology, and social sciences.

Two dozen of these UCSF scientists have made research contributions spanning several of Clarivate’s 20 core areas, and they have been listed as “cross-domain.”

The United States remains at the top of the global ranking with 2,507 grants from highly cited researchers, or 36.4% of the total. California has 552 influential scientists, almost as many as the United Kingdom.
