Police say four people are facing charges related to human smuggling allegations after eight people were found hiding in a vehicle during a traffic stop in Cornwall, Ont.

Provincial police say PPO and RCMP officers stopped a vehicle heading toward the U.S. border on Tuesday and found eight people “hiding” in the back.

Police said the driver of the vehicle, a passenger and two other suspects in two other vehicles were arrested and charged with conspiracy to violate U.S. law. Two of the four arrested are from Quebec.

The Ontario Provincial Police say several law enforcement agencies in Canada and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security participated in the investigation leading to this traffic stop.
