Five of the Schools and Departments of the Health Sciences of the Virginia Commonwealth University are ranked in the top 15 of the financing of the National Institutes of Health Research in their fields among public institutions, according to new rankings of the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. Overall, six schools / colleges VCU in health sciences and 16 departments placed in the top 50 among public institutions for the 2024 fiscal year.
The Institute is an independent non -profit organization which compiles the annual rankings for financing NIH research to individual researchers and university establishments.
The National Science Foundation ranks VCU as one of the country’s best public universities for research spending. Vcu exceeded $ 500 million in sponsored research funding For the first time in 2024, representing an increase of 9% compared to 2023, and the financing of the research of the university has increased by 86% since 2018.
“NIH financing is crucial to advance fundamental, applied and translational research and continues to result in discoveries and breakthroughs in so many disciplines in the VCU,” said P. The VCU dentistry school has climbed five places in the classification of Blue Ridge public institutions to enter the Top 10, while the Department of Family Medicine jumped nine places to reach No. 4. Three other VCU – Pharmacology and toxicology, Psychiatry and Human and Molecular Genetic Departments – also classified in the Top 15 for the 2024 finish, NIH mergers.
