Rehearsals are underway for one of the greatest moments in the young musician’s career: James Vickers and her group are about to leave during their very first tour.
“It’s a bit intimidating. I sometimes receive a little nervous,” said Vickers.
Vickers built a fans’ base on the local Nanaimo scene. Now, at the age of 15, he has just released his first album with concerts to follow in Aboriginal communities in British Columbia, some of whom with deep family roots.

“We really wanted to return to Bella Bella. James was never there before,” said his father, Noel Vickers. “This is where his great-grandfather comes from.”
Noel is more than a simple support parent. He is the director of the tour, promoter – a guy who wears many hats.

“I am the Roadie, I am the driver because he is only 15 years old. If someone told me that my most exciting and fulfilling chapter of my life would come in the sixties, I would say “I don’t think”, but here I am. “
It is hard to believe that it’s only five years that James started playing the guitar.
“I went to the music scene, I had no expectations and if you have no expectations, you can’t really let yourself go,” he said.
Now, the James Vickers Band should ride in Bella Bella, Prince Rupert and Hazelton during this tour, a taste of what will happen once he has finished the high school.

“Once he has graduated, I’m sure he will want to follow the traces of the big ones,” said Noel Vickers. “He wants to be on the road on tour with his group, and I support him 100%.”
And although he is there on this tour, maybe other children with incredible talent could catch what he does on stage and see that anything is possible.
“I am lucky to have wonderful people around me and wonderful musicians with whom to work,” said James.
“It’s just all excitement, especially what we do and where we are going, I’m really excited for that. This means tons. It means the world for me. ”
